The Prince of Wales Plans to Join UN Climate Conference in Brazil
The Prince of Wales plans to participate in the COP30 climate summit in South America next month, as confirmed by royal officials.
Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday night at a gathering ahead of the environmental conference, which is scheduled to take place in the northern Brazilian city of Belem.
Father and son were present at the scientific institution event, marking an rare public appearance together at a environmental conference preliminary meeting arranged together with the United Kingdom administration.
Climate Leadership Dedication
King Charles has been a longstanding advocate of environmental conservation - and the Prince of Wales has taken on the baton, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be taking place in South America before the UN meeting.
Official representatives have described the Prince's participation at the upcoming climate summit as taking on an crucial position in "climate diplomacy".
Previous Activities
The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the royal vehicle, were greeted attendees such as conservation experts, researchers, environmental activists, foreign representatives and government officials.
This participation involved presentations together with President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic and other international figures at the Ocean Finance Summit in the Principality of Monaco in recent months.
Earthshot Awards Connection
The climate conference will coincide with the prince's own Earthshot environmental awards, which will finish in Rio de Janeiro the eve of he participates in the climate conference on 6 November.
Recently the prince referred to the Earthshot finalists as "contemporary champions".
Monarch's Environmental Record
The monarch has been a prominent presence at earlier environmental conferences, giving the opening address in the United Arab Emirates for COP28, including the observation: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".
"Throughout my life I've dedicated a large proportion of my life trying to raise awareness about the critical dangers confronting humanity over planetary heating, environmental shifts and species extinction," the monarch informed delegates.
